How does PixelForge compress a PDF?
PixelForge renders each page of your PDF to an image canvas in the browser, re-encodes those images at a reduced JPEG quality, and rebuilds a new PDF from those compressed images. This approach is most effective on PDFs that are large because of embedded high-resolution photographs or scanned pages. PDFs made up primarily of text and vector graphics may see less reduction.
Will compressing a PDF make it harder to read?
At Low and Medium compression levels, the visual quality is generally very good and the document remains perfectly readable on screen and in print. High compression is designed for when file size is the top priority — such as email attachments or web uploads — and may make fine text or images slightly less sharp at high zoom levels.
Why didn't my PDF get smaller after compressing?
If your PDF is primarily made up of vector graphics, clean typography, or already-compressed images, there may be little room for further reduction. The compression works best on scanned documents and image-heavy files. Text-only PDFs are often already very efficient and may not reduce significantly.
Is there a file size limit for PDF compression?
There is no imposed limit. However, very large PDFs (50MB+) may take longer to process since everything runs in your browser on your own device. If your browser becomes unresponsive, try a lower-resolution compression setting or process the file in a split section first.
